Toor Dal Dosa
This toor dal dosa recipe was passed on to me from my mom. I thoroughly enjoy this dosa. Hope you do too :)
Ingredients
- 3 cups of rice
- 1.5 cups of toor dhal
- 2 tsp of urad dhal
- 6-7 red chillies
- 1 tsp jeera (cumins seeds)
- 1 tsp of coriander seeds
- 1/4 cup if coconut (optional)
- Salt
- 1/4 tsp of cooking soda
- 2 onions, chopped
- 1/2 cup of coriander leaves and curry leaves
Method:
- Soak toor dal, urad dal and rice in water for about 4 hours.
- Grind the soaked rice, urad dal and toor dal, red chillies, jeera, coriander seeds and coconut by adding 1/2 cup of water and blend to a smooth batter and leave it overnight.
- Next morning mix onions, coriander leaves, curry leaves, salt and soda to the batter.
- Now, grease a dosa tawa. Heat it well on a medium flame. When tawa is hot enough, pour 3/4 ladle of batter to the center and quickly spread it to a thin dosa. Cook on medium heat and drizzle some oil on the top and edges.
- When dosa is cooked, flap and cook the dosa on the other side until brown spots appear.
- Remove the dosa to the plate, serve hot toor dal dosa with curds or ghee.
PS: Instead of blending the batter with jeera, coconut, coriander seeds and red chillies you can temper the below ingredients and mix it to the batter next morning.
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 tbsp curry leaves chopped finely
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves
- 1 cup onion chopped finely
- a pinch hing
